Freeski Travel Comp Teams

The Competition Team is designed for older athletes who are serious about freeskiing choosing either the Big Mountain or Park & Pipe team. Team training will build upon established fundamentals in big-mountain freeride, or slopestyle skills to prepare athletes for competition. 

Athletes interested in joining the Big Mtn or Park & Pipe Comp Team should discuss their participation with Freeride Head Coach ZachS@bbsef.org. Advanced skiing experience is required for this program.

Bogus Basin season passes are not included and must be purchased from Bogus Basin.

Big Mountain Comp

This team is for advanced skiers wanting to improve their versatility as skiers training to compete within the junior IFSA competition environment. Athletes will travel to compete at 3-6 IFSA qualifying events to earn points. Athletes will learn how to compete effectively and safely, working hard in order to gain experience as Big Mountain Athletes. 

Park & Pipe Comp

This team is for advanced skiers. Athletes are expected to demonstrate sound decision-making in terrain parks, boarder/skier cross courses, and in rail-jam formats. 

Coaches will work with athletes enabling athletes to identify and set goals. Developing a consistent set of tricks/skills used in competition and consistency.


Travel/Competitions

For Athletes 12 yrs and older, travel to competitions is with and arranged by parents or guardians.

Comp Team Athletes 14 yrs and older may choose during registration to pay an additional fee to travel in the team van with coaches to competitions.

The team typically arrives a day early to the competition venue to give the athletes time to inspect and ski the competition venue. Comp team athletes should expect to participate in 3-6 competitions during the season with the goal of qualifying for championships or nationals a week-long competition at the end of March/early April. Each competition, camp, and/or travel for training has a separate cost that is in addition to tuition/team fees.

Athletes are expected to successfully manage time for training, travel, and schoolwork while maintaining at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

The CompTeam is a three-day per-week program training on, Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday evenings

Additional Options

  • Add Tuesday night training January-March (includes transportation)
  • Athletes 14yrs and older have the option to add on travel to competitions with the team.


Additional requirements

  •  Bogus Basin Season Pass is required and not included in the team fees.
  • Licensing - is required to participate in Slopestyle and/or Big Mountain Competitions. Slopestyle licensing is through USASA and Big Mountain licensing is with IFSA (International Free Skiers Association)
  • An additional coaching travel fee will be applied to each event. Trip fees are due prior to the event. Parents are still responsible for trips/coaches fees when canceling participating less than 5 days prior to the event (after the trip has been invoiced.)


ATHLETE SAFETY

U.S. Ski and Snowboard and the U.S. Center for SafeSport provide many free resources for parents who want to educate themselves and their children on Athlete Safety.

As an example, parents are encouraged to complete the Parent’s Guide to Misconduct in Sports. We also encourage parents to take an age-appropriate SafeSport course from the menu below with their children.

2023.2024

The Freeski Comp Teams train for and compete within the junior IFSA or USASA competition environment. Athletes may travel/compete at 3-6 events,  Training will build upon established fundamentals in big-mountain freeride and slopestyle skills. Coaches work to ensure athletes develop as skiers and as people, learning to be part of a team and thrive in a more independent and training-oriented environment.
