Former BBSRA racer, coach and Program Director Carma Q. Burnett founded the BBSEF Annual Welcome Winter Gala in 1993. Although she now serves as the Executive Director of the US Ski & Snowboard Intermountain Division, Carma returns to Boise every year to chair the lively BBSEF fundraising event. Named in her honor, the Carma Q. Burnett award recognizes those who share her enthusiasm for youth racing and riding as well as a continuing commitment to the Bogus Basin Ski Education Foundation.

For nearly 20 years Coach Chuck has spent winter weekends overseeing BBSEF Home Team trainings and competitions. He and his crew of coaches help Mitey Mite, Alpine Development, Freeski Development and Snowboard Home Team members develop skills and have fun sliding on snow.

When not skiing, Chuck dreams of skiing “aka, ADIDAS – All day I dream about skiing.” And he figures out how to turn fun-loving youth into dreamers too.

In a surprising turn of events during the November 17th Welcome Winter Gala, Chuck Combs accepted his award and graciously shared it with BBSEF Executive Director Shannon Carrell.

Carma Burnett had this to say as Chuck escorted Shannon to the stage:

"Congratulations Chuck. You are a treasure for this club, and we are so fortunate to have you. My hat goes off to you!

"Just like Batman needs Robin and a quarterback needs his wide receiver, it is hard to pick just one deserving person, when there are two. It is my absolute honor to announce a second recipient of this award tonight.

"For over 35 years, Shannon Carrell has been the steadfast force behind the success and heart of BBSEF. As a recipient of this year's Carma Q. Burnett Award for Distinguished Service, we are proud to honor a woman whose unwavering dedication, attention to detail and tireless work ethic have been the foundation of this program. Shannon is truly the glue that holds BBSEF together - ensuring every "i" is dotted and every "t" is crossed. Shannon's behind-the-scenes efforts may not always be visible, but their impact is felt by every athlete, coach and family that comes through our doors.

"I have had the privilege of working alongside Shannon at the Club, Divisional, and Regional levels for the past 35 years. I can say with full confidence that Shannon embodies the spirit of this sport and this community. She leads with integrity; serves with heart; and shows up every single day for all the right reasons.

"Beyond her professional contributions, Shannon is my extraordinary friend, sounding board, confidant and partner in crime. She is someone whose loyalty and passion have helped shape generations of athletes. Board members come and go. Athletes come and go. Coaches come and go. But we are blessed beyond belief that Shannon came and shaped this club into what it is today. This award could not be more fitting, nor more deserved. Thank you Shannon, for being the soul of BBSEF."
