Greetings Freeride Travel Teams,
I am excited to announce that Mike Teschner and I have been working with the newly developed USASA Pacific Northwest Region (PNW) to organize a Regional Championship this April 7th-11th at Mt. Hood. The PNW is composed of athletes from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington.
Due to limited space because of Covid restrictions this event is by invitation only. 75 athletes total will compete each day. The selection process for invitations is based on the current series standings of top three in each age group, discipline, and gender.
The Idaho Mountain Series (IMS) is organizing slopestyle and rail jam events at Tamarack in mid to late March to qualify athletes. To qualify in other disciplines IMS will look at last season's regional/national rankings to make selections. If spots are not filled from the points list, then discretionary selections will be made. For example, if last season the series only had one athlete qualify in halfpipe in a particular age group, the IMS will use discretionary selections to fill the remaining two spots based on past results, reputation, and availability.
USASA PNW Regional Championships Schedule– Mt Hood
April 7th: Team Practice
April 8th: Halfpipe
April 9th: SB/Skicross
April 10th: Slopestyle
April 11th: Rail Jam
As the selection process gets underway, I have created this doodle poll to see who is interested in competing in the Regional Championships and who would likely commit to such an event if qualified. Please click the link to complete the poll: https://doodle.com/poll/afn7ea6ngmzfv36y?utm_source=poll&utm_medium=link
Currently, the athlete event cost outlook per day is roughly $50 per lift ticket and $50 per event registration. Coaching expenses (lodging, per diem, mileage, tickets) will be applied and billed separately.
Again, this is great news and we look forward to having a bit of normalcy return to freeskiing and snowboarding.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Treat
