Tips For A Great Day
by posted 01/13/2020

Tips for a great day:

·         Give yourself plenty of time to get up the road, especially if it has snowed or is snowing.

·         Please make sure that your child is ready to ski, double check that ski passes, skis, poles, boots, helmets, gloves, ski pants and jackets make it into the car before heading up.

·         Handwarmers on very cold days and on snowy days an extra pair of dry gloves for the afternoon session.

·         Make sure your child gets a good night sleep and has a nutritious breakfast.

·         Please have your child use the restroom before meeting their groups in the morning and after lunch.

Weekly Update
by posted 01/09/2020

Greetings Home Teams,

We completed our first Skills Quest Evaluation of the season this past weekend. The athletes will work on the 4 skills throughout the season and we have another Skills Quest Evaluation Saturday 2/15 and Sunday 2/16. Skills Quest is a tool developed by USSA and the US Ski Team to help coaches assess skiing skills required for great skiing. The drills revolve around balance, edging, rotary and pressure. The four drills are Steps and Jumps, Hockey Stops, Basic Outside Ski Turns and Freeski Parallel Skiing. This weekend the focus drill will be Steps and Jumps. In a straight run on gentle terrain, the athlete must lift each ski one at a time off the ground showing control, keeping the ski parallel to the ground and jump both skis twice all while maintaining a good athletic position. It is harder than it sounds.

In addition to the Steps and Jumps Drill athletes will practice Giant Slalom on Sleepy Connector.

This Saturday kicks off the School League races. Be prepared for extra crowds skiing in Bitterroot Basin and eating in the Pioneer Lodge.

The annual Michael B Young Big Mountain Competition is coming up Saturday 2/22/2020 & Sunday 2/23/2020. This fun-filled event is limited to the first 100 entrants, registration is online and the recommended age for athletes is 10 years and older.

See you on the slopes!
